Need Sleep!

I am so tired today. The Boyfriend went to the bathroom at 3 a.m. and woke up Piper. She barked until 4 a.m. She also learned how to C L I M B over the baby gate so now we have to put her in her crate every night!!

All of a sudden we heard a jingle in our bedroom (after she had stopped barking) and then we saw her on the floor! I thought she knocked the gate over from running into it, but when we put her back we watched her from where she couldn't see us and there she was putting all 4 paws in the gate and climbing it. She's very smart (and brave).

I can never have kids, I can't even handle a dog. Her ears are sticking straight up now all the time (boo!, I wanted a floppy eared pup!)

Hooray, TV

This weekend, the boyf finally splurged and got his 46" DLP HDTV. Just in time for football and hockey. Now I can see every beautiful detail of Wayne Chrebet and Chad Pennington in stunning High Definition detail.

In other sports news: the bane of my Ranger loving existence, Eric Lindross, was finally traded off the Rangers, unfortunately he was traded to Leafs, which is my other team. I just can't seem to get rid of this concussion-laden tool box.

Piper!




This is the me & the boy's new puppy, Piper. She is a Yorkie, Westie mix. She is 8 weeks old (born one week to the day before me) and she is so cute only weighing 2 pounds. You'll be regailed with tales of the pup from now on so get used to it. EEeeeeeee!

Confessions of a Suburban Sell Out

Way back when in high school if I mentioned to people that I was going to UConn I'd get this awkward shifting and one of those totally forced "Oh, isn't that nice?" kind of comments. The Yuke, afterall, was a state school and in my Town the only thing that was respectable was an Ivy, art school, BU or BC. To be going to a state school (and a pretty good one if I do say so myself) cemented my status as "middle class". It guranteed me a spot at the table of uncouth friends, who were invited only because you didn't have the heart not to invite them. I lived on the wrong side of town, my family had the wrong structure (single *WORKING* mother raising 2 kids on her own) and certainly the wrong kind of jobs. The only thing I had going for me was that I was a "smart kid" and all I wanted was to be recognized in their world.

Six years later I sit here, still not having graduated from college, still living in the same house, still from the same family, I've learned that I detest everyone from high school and pretty much everyone in this Town. For some reason I still can't shake them all off.

I've made progress though and I realized this today as I walked up and down "The Avenue" at lunch time, talking on my flashy new cellphone, while on my lunch break from job at a liquidating hedge fund and investment management office in the most beautiful (and well recognized) building in the heart of downtown. I had on my pressed black pants and sensible shirt, I carried my Coach handbag proudly as I browsed the likes of Kate Spade, J.Crew and Tiffany. I'd done it, I'd become another member of the flock, my salt and pepper wool now pure white, no longer anything to make me stick out. I'd coasted my way all the way to mediocrity, I'd learned to play their game and finally I'd learned that none of them really matter anyway. With that, I was able to hold my head a little higher.

This One's For Matty

Okay, so basically my job right now in the office is to organize and put away the backlog of filing that built up over the last two years here at my job. (Hey, I never claimed to do anything important)

There is one turd-burglar here though, who really chaps my ass. He's a lefty and as such he files everything backwards. He opens up all of the file folders and folds them inside out so the tabs can go onto the shelf in a lefty friendly way. That’s fine, I used to work for a lefty office manager so I'm used to the backward arrangements on the shelves. The problem is that he is interfiling his LEFTY filing with a predominantly RIGHTY filing system thereby creating a "conglomerated, mulatta, M O N G R E L race" of filing. (How d'ya like *that* inside reference?)

Now I have to go through and fix all of his lefty problem children. I know you're thinking "just turn the folder inside out and put it back on the shelf". No, it's not that easy. He scrawls in his lefty hieroglyphics all over the inside of the folders and adds newspaper clippings to them. He doesn’t believe in cutting neatly around the edge of the article, oh no. He just rips the pages out of the paper all willy nilly and then folds them up, but not neatly either, he just sort of crumples them and stuffs them into the folder and its already driving me fucking nutty.

RAR. And so it begins, Matt, and so it begins.

Hemming & Hawing

Seeing as my boss is at his farm, the 2 women of the office are both out and only the lawyer and the accountant are here, that makes me the boss of the office, which actually means I have work to do which is pretty sweet (am I sick enough to be happy to have work?).

However, I am kind of nervous about next week, the bosses personal assistant will be on vacation and the other girl is out because her father is dying (and might not make it through the weekend) She knows what to do in the PA's absence, but I have no clue wehre to even start. This means I'm going to have to be on full phone coverage, taking dictation, sending correspondence and about a million other things. This makes me EXTREMELY skeered. I'm sure I'll do fine, but I guess this is a good chance to show them I can make the cut. I just hope that the other woman's father makes it through this so that I can just focus on backing her up.

It's Thursday, I need a drink.

Something Stirring

Everything is right in my life, but something is very wrong. I'm not going to get into details now, but I just know something is going wrong. I don't feel good, Bleh.

The new 311 album is awesome. Reg picked it up yesterday and thankfully for me he left it in my car so I've been rockin' to it (oh so quietly) at work today.

I've decided to start reading all the books I should have read for classes in high school, but never did. I started Catcher In The Rye last night, here are some others that made my list:
A Tale of Two Cities (I remember the discussions on it from class and it sounds pretty good), To Kill A Mocking Bird I already read this, but it so good I want to read it again, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Farenheit 451, Walden, The Good Earth and probably a bajillion others. If you can think of something I should read lemme know and I'll add it to the queue.

Being In Love Is

When that ex writes to you to tell you that he's getting married and all you are is genuinely happy for him without the slightest twinge of jealousy 'cause you know what you have is infinitesimally better and real than anything you could have had otherwise.

Yup, being in love is pretty darn good.

DIY Diva!

It’s amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. This weekend Andrew and I totally remodeled the bathroom and didn’t fight once about it. That isn’t to say that we didn’t want to kill each other, but that cooler heads prevailed and we either left one another alone or we made each other laugh.

All day Saturday and up until 5 o’clock last night I honestly didn’t think we’d make it. We completely tore up the floor (to reveal a horrifying mass of this awful black 1970’s tar-like adhesive that was totally hellish) and removed all the wallpaper, the wall bases, the cabinet doors and the medicine cabinet and we repainted it all. We went with a deep, deep red (which while it looks great 5 coats later was a bit of a pain in the ass to paint!) with white, antique white and butter yellow accents. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Pictures will be arriving at some point tomorrow, I’m too lazy to do it now.

The editors on all those home improvement shows on TLC, HGC and wherever else they’re on are mighty crafty. They make it look so easy (and I guess it really is that easy), but its far more time consuming than they let on. I guess a full crew of people and all the right tools helps, but sometimes I’d be curious to see the people on these shows freak out from the pressure of it all.

Other than that I’ve not got much else to report for this weekend. I’m tired, sore and I didn’t leave my house or see anyone other than Andrew this weekend so I’ve got a whole lot of nothing.

Bad "Car-ma"

Toward the end of June I converted my lovely boyfriend to The Dark Side. He registered his car in CT and finally got a Connecticut license. Unfortunately his car couldn’t pass emissions though, so we had to send it to Long Island to get a few quick repairs done. No problem, right? Wrong!

The mechanic had his car for over 2 weeks and the “ripple effect” from there has been more than a pain in the butt. (No offense, kiddo!) Since driving last night to retrieve the car I’ve had to deal with:

Getting my E-Z pass revoked at the Throgs Neck Bridge

Getting rear-ended by some idiot in a mustang (car’s fine thank goodness!)

I no longer have the luxury of the “well we only have one car I can’t go to the gym and stay at work before work”

And the last straw happened this morning. While I have no excuse to not go to the gym I still didn’t go and so I used the extra time I had to mend a pair of black pants. Once I mended the pants I put on my favorite Tommy Hilfiger shoes so that I could look all spiffy (note: these were not the shoes I was planning on wearing today). Walking into work and up the stair MY SHOE BROKE!

I give up!

Ahh, Just Like Old Times

Its Monday, and just like old times I've managed to literally do nothing all day. I wish that there actually was stuff for me to do around here, but I suppose its just something I'll have to address at tomorrow's staff meeting.

I literally haven't moved from my seat most of the day, I didn't leave the office for lunch, like I usually do and I haven't even gotten up to go to the bathroom. I'm noticing that there are days every month now that its just dead like this, which I enjoy, but I'm hoping it doesn't end up like my old job.

I spent most of the day planning the bathroom rennovation that the manpiece and I are about to undertake. I will be sure and take photos so you can see what design geniuses we are.

Other than that there isn't a whole lot going on today. I wish I had gone to the gym this morning, but I didn't sleep very well last night and wasn't too thrilled at the prospect of getting up at 5:45 to exercise.

Awesome Night

Last night I went to a friend's house for a graduation BBQ. She had a ton of yummy treats, some veggie lasagna and the usual BBQ faire. After we ate she took us around her property to hang with a llama called Clinton and 2 others that she yelled at to not spit at her (they were puffin' their cheeks in preparation of it). Clinton and his overbite certainly had a thing for Hank as he stalked him. Hiding behind trees and doing his lil stampy foot thing. There was also a donkey named Amigo and 2 shetland ponies and a goat with an affinity for beer.

After that we went to the outdoor pool of the property (which used to be owned by Michael Crichton). It was one of those infinity pools that overlooked all of Westchester and parts of Rockland county and it was AMAZING! I felt like we were on an episode of Cribs or The OC or something. Everyone was drinking and chillin' in the hot tub and swimming all we needed were a couple of big bootied hoes and some Cristal and we could have had ourselves a rap video.

Good times, good friends, amazing scenery. So congratulations, Vicki, best of luck in Springfield and we'll see ya soon!

Return of the Diva

I haven’t been around very much because I’ve been in Lake George with the boyfriend’s family enjoying a pretty amazing vacation. Lake George is a really beautiful place. The weather was perfect, there was only about 20 minutes of rain the whole time we were there and getting us out of the Lake was almost impossible. We shopped, we swam, tubed, water skied, banana boated, played pirate mini golf and just generally enjoyed each other’s company. His family is really great (and no, I’m not just saying this ‘cause he reads this) and I only wish we could have stayed longer (or that we had gone last year as well).

Work has been pretty easy the last two days. The office is really quiet because my boss is out of town (as he almost always is), one of our partners is in Alaska and another is telecommuting today. My one adjustment is getting used to how quiet it is around here. There is never really a “busy” season. It’s nice to not be stressed out all the time and not have to come home miserable and tired. I really loved the atmosphere of Starbucks, the people I worked with and the regular customers, but it was just very taxing to be on your feet for 8+ hours a day and not having any “downtime”.

The other perk of this job is that it finally necessitates me needing either a Treo or a Blackberry, so even though I’m not really that important around here, I’ll certainly look the part. (If anyone out there has Cingular and has any input into which they prefer let me know. My choices are the Treo 600 or the Blackberry 7100t I’d prefer phone quality to internet capabilities as I really only need it to receive office mail when I’m not here).

Finally: the band is getting back together (yes, I’m a ‘hanger-oner’) the Ron & Fez Show is coming to the same XM satellite radio channel as Opie & Anthony and now that I’m back in an office I can finally find the time to participate in the messageboard again. I’ve been trying to post since mid June, but someone whose name I won’t mention (*cough*jon*cough*) has been too busy to look into my login issues so I’ve had to just create another name. Anyone want to make a new sig for me? (God, I’m a nerd)

Well that wraps it up for me for now. I know this wasn’t thrilling, witty or even well written, but I’m a little rusty and I’m trying to look like I’m actually doing something. Catch you kids later!
